Cecil Digard helps maintain the German wartime bunker on the headland at Pleinmont, above Fort Pezeries and close to Portelet Harbour. The view from the bunker looks out to the south west of the island, past Les Hanois lighthouse.
Oliver Carey got in touch with him after Simon Langlois gave him his number. Simon had previously met Cecil on a cliff walk, which Simon was recording as part of a report he was putting together in book 1, Dead in the Water. However, we don’t meet Cecil ourselves until he appears in book 2, Blowfish.
Ollie had been expecting to find someone in his sixties when he first met Cecil Digard, so was surprised to discover that he was actually in his thirties. When Ollie first encounters him at the door to the bunker we learn that…
He was somewhere around his mid-thirties, with rolled up sleeves and a short ginger beard. His forearms were muscular and his grip as they shook was carefully balanced to save Ollie’s hand from being crushed.
