Verity Hollett is Frank Hollett’s wife. She was born and raised on the island and met Frank several years after he moved to Guernsey. She married him after the incident that caused his face to be badly scarred.
However, she doesn’t seem entirely happy with her lot, and she and Hollett have a tendency to bicker.
What Ollie Carey first visits the Hollett home, it’s Verity who opens the door. He observes her thus:
She cleared her throat and he jumped, and when he looked back he saw her fake tan and fake nails, and the loose green jumpsuit she’d barely shrugged on. It was open to the front, a long way down her cleavage, with little indication she was wearing much underneath.
A few minutes later, after entering the house, he takes note of her appearance in case he should need it for his write-up:
She wasn’t unattractive. Her skin was smooth behind the fake tan, and her eyes were a sharp, clear blue. Her hair was full and glossy where it caught the light from the window, all of which made [her and Frank Hollett’s] pairing, if not unlikely, at least seem a little surprising.
She is one of the very few characters that we encounter in the Sarnian series who reads The Sarnian newspaper. She enjoys it, but her husband disapproves deeply. Not only does he rarely read it, he actively dislikes it.
